Many Nigerian entertainers have transitioned from show business to preaching the gospel. From actors to musicians, some celebrities now lead ministries while still being involved in entertainment.
Here are seven well-known Nigerian celebrities who have become pastors:
1. Zack Orji
Zack Orji is a veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker, known for his role in the 1991 movie Unforgiven Sin. He once served as the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN). Though he often played a pastor in movies, he later became one in real life. Zack Orji is now a full-time evangelist at the Christian Central Chapel International (CCCI) and travels across Nigeria for his ministry.
2. Kanayo O. Kanayo
Kanayo O. Kanayo, famous for his roles in Nollywood movies, is widely recognized for playing characters involved in money rituals. However, outside acting, he is a preacher at Christ Mission Worldwide Church in Egbeda, Lagos, where he spreads the gospel.
3. Eucharia Anunobi
Known for her roles in Glamour Girls and Abuja Connection, Eucharia Anunobi shocked fans when she became a pastor. Despite her transformation, she continues acting. She was ordained as an evangelist on February 5, 2012, at Fresh Oil Ministry Church in Lagos. She also counsels young people and preaches internationally.
4. Jimmy Odukoya
Jimmy Odukoya, an actor and musician, became the senior pastor of the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos, following the passing of his father. Before this, he had been actively involved in ministry and led The Cave Church.
5. Patience Ozokwor
Popular for playing wicked mother-in-law roles in Nollywood movies, Patience Ozokwor is now deeply committed to her Christian faith. She preaches and shares her testimony in churches. In 2019, she was seen ministering at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Lagos.
6. Banky W
Bankole Wellington, widely known as Banky W, is a celebrated musician and actor. In 2020, he embraced full-time ministry at This Present House Church, founded by Tony Rapu. Banky W also uses social media to share sermons and gospel messages. Additionally, he has collaborated with gospel artists like Mercy Chinwo.
7. Liz Benson
Liz Benson, a veteran Nollywood actress, started acting at age five. In 2009, she married a bishop and was later ordained as an evangelist. She and her husband now lead Rainbow Christian Assembly in Warri, Delta State.
